i think on Tuesday's i'm going to write about theater. We'll call it Theater Tuesdays. Why not?
i'm writing of a production of A Raisin in the Sun i saw last Friday.
i directed Raisin in 2006 and to say the memories are full of emotion would be a huge understatement. It was my first real artistic statement out of college and has been the one show in my meager career that has led to jobs that have kept the lights on. So i knew it was going to be a little hard watching it, especially with the actress i directed in it playing the same role.
When the curtain came up it was very difficult at first to watch, but as the play progressed the story unfolded in front of me and there was Ms. Hansberry, speaking through the play, the characters, and from the past. i have to say this is due to my very close friend who directed the piece. She poured as much love and devotion into the show as when i did it, and it showed!
i highly recommend it so if you are in Philly make the trip, you won't regret it!
And yeah seeing it made me a little reminiscent so here are two pictures from my production that make me smile ...
