In Memory of Rita Graf

On December 26th i lost my grandmother. She was one of the most fun loving, generous, amazing people i have ever met in my life. i have to say since the day i was informed she would not pull through i have been angry, bitter, and full of despair. i don't think she'd want me to go through life like that. So i will carry on her memory every time i laugh. She had the most amazing, loud, infectious laugh i have ever heard, i can still hear it. Now every time i laugh it will be a small tribute to her.

How did i miss this?

i LOVE how all the fetish pictures look like comics circa 1939-1940!

So Morrissey came. i've yet to go into grave detail about his new album and i will one day, and that is a threat you can count on.

i will say since i'm a setlist watcher by nature NOTHING surprised me and maybe that is what disappointed me about the show. i feel since he's only been on tour a few weeks he would've changed it up a tad by now and he hasn't yet. This is the first tour i've seen with a bit of a more consistent setlist which is a shame.

Mikey came with me, our seats were nosebleed which was fine since we were in the beautiful
Academy of Music. The deal about the nosebleed seats there though is the higher you the more removed you feel which may have affected my feeling on the show but i'm still not sure. We missed the first act which was fine with. Mikey only knew a few songs and asked me just about every song "what is this one called?" and "is it old or new?" which i think would've annoyed me but i found it adorable. The intermission was great! Instead of music he played videos of all things that are so Morrissey, 50's greasers, old glam rockers, random English b&w films, it was GREAT.
While the show itself was strong and peppered with some songs i never thought i would ever hear live,  the last two times i saw Moz were so emotional this one just couldn't top it.

Lend Me Some Tenors!

So i've been very busy i haven't posted in a while LJ. i've been directing a show called Lend Me A Tenor at Celebration Theater. i'm very prouod of the show but especially the look of the show i've always wanted to do a show in this"era" and i finally got my wish. Not only did i have great actors but also a great design team, including my friend and neighbor[info]mozgirl_sara who did an amazing job as scenic designer, from picking the colors to repairing furniture and making it shine.

Show is very funny, so go check it out, its the next two weeks!

A Raisin in the Sun 2009

i think on Tuesday's i'm going to write about theater. We'll call it Theater Tuesdays. Why not?

i'm writing of a production of A Raisin in the Sun i saw last Friday.

i directed Raisin in 2006 and to say the memories are full of emotion would be a huge understatement. It was my first real artistic statement out of college and has been the one show in my meager career that has led to jobs that have kept the lights on. So i knew it was going to be a little hard watching it, especially with the actress i directed in it playing the same role.

When the curtain came up it was very difficult at first to watch, but as the play progressed the story unfolded in front of me and there was Ms. Hansberry, speaking through the play, the characters, and from the past. i have to say this is due to my very close friend who directed the piece. She poured as much love and devotion into the show as when i did it, and it showed!

i highly recommend it so if you are in Philly make the trip, you won't regret it!

3:24 pm

i think on Monday's i'm going to write about things that either really get me excited, or keep me anticipating or really piss me off or worry me. i was just going to post a link to Paul Krugman's excellent open letter to Obama in the latest issue of Rolling Stone but since the website provides none you gotta just pick the issue up for yourself and read it.

SO i guess i'll talk about how excited i was that Heath Ledger won the Golden Globe last night for The Dark Knight AND how excited i was that Colin Farrell (giving the his best performence since Tigerland) won for Martin McDonagh's great little film In Bruges. And yeah for Kate Winslette winning two awards.

Here is Christopher Nolan accepting the award for Heath Ledger.
